THE COMPETITION HOTS UP
The tournament committee have been working hard over the last twelve months to bring you an even better tournament this year! There will be the same events - level, handicap and veteran competitions.
The tournament committee for 2010 is Paul Jessop, Angela Wortley (Referee) and Dave McTurk has kindly stepped in to help with the schedule. If you would like to help us run YOUR tournament or if you have suggestions on how we can improve the running of the tournament let us know.
The stricter rules last year enabled the tournament to run without a hitch although we failed to control the weather!! The online and text communication of match dates and times to players was revolutionary and will be used this year too. If you are not online all the draws and order of play will be on the notice boards. Finals Day will be on Saturday 18th September from midday with the bar open from lunchtime and a barbecue later in the afternoon.
REALLY IMPORTANT RULES!
Each competitor must sign the back of their entry form to acknowledge they have read and understood the following rules.
• Dates and times scheduled for matches have to be adhered to or players will be scratched. Matches can be played BEFORE their scheduled day and time by players contacting opponents and rearranging but - NEW FOR 2009 - Liz or Paul have to be informed of this change. Court availability for rearranged matches must be checked against the order of play and the new time and date written on the tournament notice board. There will be a designated notice board for tournament information at the top of the club house stairs.
• Players must be available for Finals Day – Saturday 18 September from 11.30am and Sunday 19 September if Saturday is cancelled due to rain.
• If a player(s) are cancelling a match due to bad weather Liz or Paul have to be contacted as any tournament rescheduling needs to be carried out by the tournament organisers.
• If a player is unavailable to play the final due to injury, the losing opponents from the previous round will go through.
• Players must complete the dates and times when they are unavailable to play (found on opposite side of entry form).
• Entry form has to be returned by Tuesday 24 August.
THE TOURNAMENT
• Entry into the tournament will not be accepted without payment of entry fees.
• Players can enter a maximum of five events but will need to be available to play throughout the whole tournament.
• Players consistently not available for play are asked to restrict their entry to two events.
• It is the responsibility of competitors to consult the order of play for their match times.
• Juniors can enter if they have played for a senior team this season.
• Players must provide their own balls for their matches except the finals.
• If there is bad weather on Saturday 18 September then finals day will be held on Sunday 19 September.
FORMAT OF MATCHES
All matches shall be the best of three sets and in level events the tie break will operate in all sets, but in handicap matches there will be no tie breaks. Matches need to start at their scheduled time with no more than a 5 minute knock up.
THE DRAW
The draw will place over the bank holiday weekend and the schedule of play will hopefully be available Tues/Weds and displayed in the club house and on the club web site.
Let the games begin!
